What personal information we collect

Depending on how you interact with us, we may collect:

  • Contact details you give us directly — name, email address, phone number — for example through the newsletter sign-up form or the Contact page.
  • Information you provide when you get in touch with a query or request.
  • Technical information collected automatically when you visit our website, such as your IP address, browser type, device information, and pages viewed (see our separate Cookie Notice for detail).
  • Information arising from our business relationship if you become a client or supplier — for account administration, invoicing, and support.

Why we process your personal information

We use personal information to:

  • Respond to enquiries and provide the information or services you’ve asked for
  • Send our weekly newsletter to subscribers who have opted in, and let them unsubscribe at any time
  • Manage our relationship with clients and suppliers, including invoicing and support
  • Meet legal and regulatory obligations
  • Improve our website and services

Where we rely on your consent (for example, the newsletter), you may withdraw that consent at any time by using the unsubscribe link in any email or by contacting us directly.

Voluntary or mandatory

Providing your name and email address to subscribe to the newsletter, or to submit a contact enquiry, is voluntary. If you choose not to provide it, we simply won’t be able to respond to your enquiry or send you the newsletter.

Cookies and website tracking

Our website uses cookies. Full detail on what cookies we use, why, and how you can control them is set out in our separate Cookie Notice.

Who we share information with

We may share personal information with trusted third parties who help us run our business and website, including:

  • Kit (kit.com) — our email newsletter platform
  • Our website hosting provider
  • Professional advisors (for example, accountants or legal counsel), where necessary

We do not sell personal information. Any third party we share information with is required to protect it and use it only for the purpose we’ve engaged them for.

Cross-border transfers

Some of the service providers we use (for example, Kit) may store or process information outside South Africa. Where this happens, we take reasonable steps to ensure your information receives a comparable level of protection, as required by POPIA.
How we protect your information
We take reasonably practicable steps to protect personal information against loss, unauthorised access, interference, and disclosure, and we review these measures on an ongoing basis.

Your rights

Under POPIA, you have the right to:

  • Ask us to confirm what personal information we hold about you and request a copy of it
  • Ask us to correct or update inaccurate or incomplete information
  • Ask us to delete personal information in certain circumstances
  • Object to our processing of your information, including for direct marketing
  • Withdraw consent at any time, where we rely on your consent
  • Lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator if you believe we have not handled your information properly

To exercise any of these rights, contact our Information Officer using the details above. We aim to respond within the timeframes POPIA requires (generally 30 days).

Direct marketing

We only send marketing emails, such as our weekly newsletter, to people who have actively opted in. Every marketing email includes a working unsubscribe link, and we remove anyone who unsubscribes without delay.

Complaints to the Information Regulator

If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your personal information, you’re welcome to contact us directly first — but you also have the right to complain to South Africa’s Information Regulator:
